Marie Tussaud (1761 - 1850), maiden name Hrosholtts (Grosholts), was born in Strasbourg, her mother worked as a housekeeper at the doctor Phillip Curtis, who was involved in wax. He taught Marie Tussaud the art of wax figures. In 1765 she made a wax figure of Joan Murray Dyubari, mistress of Louis XV.
The first exhibition of wax works Phillip Curtis took place in 1770 and enjoyed great success. 1776 exhibition held at the Palais Royal in Paris. Next event on the Boulevard du Temple in 1782 was the predecessor of the Cabinet of Horrors.

1884 collection moved to Marylebone Road. A lot of figures in 1925 were killed in a fire. However, the form is not affected, and the figure was reconstructed.
