Farm Finance and Productivity

Farming is the raising of plants ( arable farming) and livestock, usually for profit. More
people in the world live by farming than by any other occupation, and many others find work preparing farm products for the market
Farms may be large or small, on rich or poor land, and may produce any of
hundreds of products. Most are food products for humans or animals, but farming also produces wool, flax for linen manufacture, silk, and a variety of other non-food items. Life on a farm depends on the kind of farm and where it is. Life on a great sheep ranch in Australia is nothing like that of the rice farmers of Indonesia or the dairy farmers in the United States or the British Isles.
Practically every developed country supports the income of its farmers. Such
support places a heavy burden on a taxpayer. In spite of this support, the average
farmer has a lov income. Any tampering with the national financial support for agriculture causes political storm, especially from the poorer farmers who need this support to survive
Farmers have to provide their own capital or raise it on loan for most of their
improvements. Many farmers plough back all they can afford after supporting their families
Loans are required for three main terms of repayment. There are long-term loans to purchase or reclaim land. Most loans for improvements for building and fixed equipment are for up to ten years. Seasonal loans are required to cover seed or fertilizers until a crop is sold.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to finance farming development from its
own profit margins.
