At first, the parks (set up) as areas for fun and enjoyment. The idea that parks were necessary to conserve natural beauty became stronger much later.
Today, most large countries have national parks. Britain now has ten national parks. A vast network of natural reserves (build up) in Russia. In Belorus, Belovezhskaya Park, is home to the rare European bison.
One danger to European parks is pollution. For example, the forests (damage) by acid rain. National parks preserve sites of nautral beauty. Historic sites (preserve) in many state parks too.
