Monet began to write water lilies in 1899.  At this time, he settles in Giverny and fulfills his long-cherished dream - he creates an excellent garden dazzling with all sorts of flowers.  One of the favorite places of the garden was a pond with a bridge in the Japanese style.  Monet grew water lilies in it and could spend hours admiring the reflection of delicate flowers in the water and the game of sun glare.

This work was carried out in the period from 1914 to 1917.  The grandiose two-meter canvas differs from the early variations on this plot not only by its scale, but also by free interpretation, as well as bold experiments.

Working on a painting, the painter deliberately refuses to convey a credible impression - an idea that he propagandized throughout his entire creative journey, and gives the plot features of abstractness.  Water lilies are presented in the form of round and oval islands of yellow and pink flowers, which are located on the water, written in dark blue, green and purple colors.

The composition is completely built on color to the detriment of other means of expression.  Water is presented as a multilayered substance - the attentive viewer can see how, by applying a new layer of careless short strokes, Monet blocked the outline of leaves and flowers.

In whatever genre the master worked, he always tried to convey movement on the canvas.  Such a seemingly static landscape is also full of dynamics.  Thanks to the vertical strokes of violet and dark green flowers that intersect the entire canvas, it seems that we can see the reflected tangled algae and the roots of the plants under water - this creates the necessary movement, not allowing the landscape with outlandish colors to "frost."

The water lilies themselves are painted by the artist in a rich yellow color, while putting it on the Monet canvas is thick and generous, and it seems that the flowers acquire volume.

The picture vividly demonstrates how much importance the master attached to color.  He deliberately abandons such a basic concept in the composition as the horizon, suddenly cutting off the watery surface with water lilies with the edges of the canvas.
