The thief sees him/herself as an outsider - criminals often do - and opposes the world.
He/she despises his/her own lifestyle. He/shc gets thrill, excitement, another surge of
adrenaline from peoples misfortune, feels he/she has the right to punish them.
The clues to the character are words like alone - a snowman is not a substitute
for a friend, boredom - there is nothing to fill his/her time (lines 22-23), I could eat
myself - being prepared to do harm to him/ herself to overcome boredom.

The poem is in a way sympathetic, as people like the thief need help from society,
so that the have a chance to integrate with it.
