The main Kazakh holiday is "the feast of sacrifice". The holiday lasts for three or four days. According to the legend, once Ibrahim saw Allah in his dream, and in order to test his faith, he was told to climb the mountains and sacrifice his son Ismail to Allah. However, when Ibrahim went up into the mountains and was ready to kill the boy, Allah, having convinced of Ibrahim devotion, sent a lamb as a sacrifice. Since that time sheep and lambs have been sacrificed on this day throughout the Muslim world. Meat is given to the poor and is used for the familys festive meal. The prayer in the temple is considered to be a compulsory on this holiday.
