Seven wonders of the world are the oldest monuments of architecture, which are considered to be the greatest creations of human hands. One of them is Hanging Gardens of Babylon. In the sixth century BC the king of Babylon ordered to create wonderful gardens for his wife Amitis. The king wanted not only to please Amitis, but also to create a masterpiece that could glorify him. Hanging gardens of Babylon were a four-tiered pyramid, each tier of it had both terraces and balconies. The tiers were held by powerful columns. On each of them unique plants were planted: flowers, trees, grass and shrubs. Seeds and seedlings for gardens were brought from all over the world. The pyramid resembled a constantly blooming hill as a unique irrigation system was designed for the gardens. The Babylonian gardens were truly an oasis in the hot Babylon.
When the city fell into decay and the gardens could not be watered any more, all the plants were killed, and numerous earthquakes finally destroyed the Palace.
