One of the differences between a person and animals, even intelligent ones, is that only a person is able to joke and laugh. My mother works in a hospital. Every day, it takes dozens of patients. By diagnosing a patient, she can tell a funny incident from her practice and thereby elevate the mood to a person. And sometimes its enough just to speak kindly and smile, in order to cheer up the patient.
I think that humor really plays a big role in our life. Living without a smile and a joke, we probably just could not stand the whole seriousness of life.
