Bannister answered that that had been about half past four and that was Mr Soames' tea time.
 Holmes asked for how long had he stayed.
He answered that Mr Soameshad been out and he had gone out at once.
Holmes asked him if he had looked at those papers on the table.
Bannister answered that he hadn't looked at the papers
Holmes asked Bannister why he had left the key in the door.
He answered he had had the tea-tray in his hands.

Holmes thanked him and asked if he could visit the students then.
Mr Soames said that he could and that their rooms were the oldest in the college and many visitors came to see them. He also said he would go with Holmes.
