One Irish legend says that (1) ... Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool) was challenged to a fight by (2) Scottish giant he had offended. Fionn accepted (3) challenge and built the causeway across (4) North Channel so that the two giants could meet.
In (5) one version of the story, Fionn defeats (6) his Scottish foe. In another, Fionn hides from (7) Scottish giant when he realises that his foe is much bigger than he. (8) Fionn's wife, Oonagh, swaddled (пеленать) Fionn as (9) baby and put him into a cradle (люлька).
When (10) Scottish competitor sees the size of the 'baby', he reckons that its father, Fionn, must be a giant among giants. He runs away back to (11) Scotland in fright, destroying the causeway behind him so that Fionn could not follow.
