The bison is a large cloven-hoofed animal, inhabiting the entire eastern and western part of the forest-steppe zone of Eurasia in a fairly large population almost to the end of the 10th century. But, due to the activity of extermination by a man-hunter, and also due to natural factors (disease, predators), by the year 1923 only a little more than 50 representatives of this kind of wild cattle remained, out of the many thousands of livestock, and they mostly lived in protected areas.

To restore the number of this animal, the International Bison Conservation Society was established. Hard work is being done to this day. And the results are obvious: more than 3000 animals live in all reserves and nurseries of the world today. And in Belovezhskaya Pushcha and in the Caucasian Reserve, the content of the bison was introduced. But, even with such successes, scientists are not yet able to produce herds of bison in an open unprotected locality.
