On the fourth Thursday of October American people celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The first Thanksgiving Day was celebrated by American colonists in autumn of 1621. They were people who sailed on Mayflower ship to start a new life in the New World. Life of the colonists was very hard because there was nothing to eat. The first winter was the most difficult of all. In spring Native Indians taught pilgrims how to survive in America so in the autumn of 1621 they had a wonderful harvest. To celebrate this, the colonists decided to have a Thanksgiving feast. It meant that they were very thankful for their food. They were thankful to God and to their new Indian friends. During this holiday they ate roast turkey and pumpkin pies. Today Americans still celebrate Thanksgiving Day and the main dishes of the holiday table are turkey and pumpkins.
