Глагол to be (быть, являться, находиться) отличается от других тем, что имеет несколько форм в истинном (the Present Simple Tense) и прошедшем (the Past Simple Tense) временах.

Формы to be в the Present Simple

В ординарном истинном медли у глагола to be три формы:

• am употребляется только с местоимением I (я): I am happy;
• is возникает после существительных в единственном числе и местоимений he (он), she (она), it (оно): It is the hottest month there;
• are просит перед собой существительное во множественном числе либо одно из местоимений - we (мы), you (вы), they (они): They are friendly.

Формы глагола to be в the Past Simple

В простом прошедшем to be обладает только двумя формами:

• was употребляется с подлежащими, выраженными существительными и местоимениями (I (я), he (он), she (она), it (оно)) в единственном числе: I was there;
• were работает с существительными и местоимениями (we (мы), you (вы), they (они)) во множественном числе: The people there were good to me.

Образование грядущего медли у глагола to be происходит по общей схеме:

• will + be: It will be the same!  

I like to spend my weekends in a small village in the South of England. July is the hottest month there, the weather is usually fine and there are no cold winds. The two small hotels are very nice, the people in the village are friendly and the food in local restaurants is really good. There are rather many people lying in the sun or swimming but I am fond of noisy and active holidays. Last summer everything was like that and I am sure everything will be the same next July.
