Yesterday I met Betty at the bus stop. I could hardly believe my eyes. Betty had changed a lot. She had lost weight. She became very slim. In fact, she looked  young and beautiful. Betty had two tickets for the theatre performance which she had bought for her mother and herself. As her mother was ill, Betty invited me to go with her which I did with pleasure.

Present Indefinite is used for a past action. Present Indefinite is formed with the help of suffix ed (for regular verbs). Irregular verbs take their second form in Past Indefinite.

Past Perfect is formed had + the third form of verb.
