Leopard is a predatory mammal from a cat family. This is a large enough animal, though smaller than its counterparts, such as a lion and a tiger. The body of a leopard is slim and muscular. A distinctive feature is the spotty color of wool. Leopards from different areas differ significantly from each other in size. The largest one lives in open areas. The tail of a leopard can be almost half the body length. There is also a special type of leopard, which is called a panther. This is a black leopard. Its color is caused by the presence of a particular gene. Leopard lives in a wide range of areas - from forests to savanna. Leopards live and usually hunt alone. This is a nocturnal animal that sees well in the dark. Usually, ungulates serve as food for them. Life of leopards in the wild is usually 15-17 years.
