George Washington is the greatest political figure not only in American history, but in the history of the whole world. He was commander-in-chief of the continental army during the war of independence, after winning it became the first elected president of the United States. The future American hero was born in a family of landowners. He participated in expeditions, wars against the Indians and French. After the marriage he got possession of huge plantations, and became one of the richest landowners in Virginia. As president, he was elected for two terms. He himself refused to nominate himself for a third term. In foreign policy, he supported non-interference strategies in European affairs. Washington is also called the fathers of the fatherland, because it was thanks to him that the United States began its way of becoming the greatest political and economic hegemon of the world.
