Merlin was a mentor of the British King Arthur. He was a sage and wizard of Celtic myths. There are a lot of stories around his birth but as a kid he was very kind and helped everyone. When Arthur reached the age of sixteen, Merlin advises him to participate in a contest for the ancient sword in stone. According to a well-known legend, one who can extract this sword from a stone is destined to unite all of Britain. Excalibur falls into Arthurs hands in one of the following episodes - Merlin invites charms to the Lady of the Lake, who bestows to Arthur Excalibur. After Arthurs death, the sword returns to the Lady of the Lake. Merlin helped Arthur during all his life until the death. By the way, his death was also like a mystery and had two variants: an evil witch took him into endless dream and the second one - she got him into huge oak where Merlin died. According to legend, after the death of Arthur Saxons still captured Britain, and Merlin cursed the Saxons, predicting the fall of the White Dragon. Anyway, the "curse of Merlin" came true during the Battle of Hastings, when William the Conqueror killed the last Saxon king Harold. Later, the Normans, mixed with Sathsonian blood of Matilda, fell, and after the Plantagenets, York and Lancaster, the throne was captured by Welsh blood - that is, the Britons - by the Tudors, thus the royal power returned to the descendants of the Celts.
