The lion is the largest big cat with a tiger on our planet. The lion belongs to the genus Panther. Lions live in Africa and in a small area of Asia, although they once inhabited much larger territories. Usually lions live in savannahs, only the Asian subspecies lives in the forest. The female is easily distinguished from the male, because the latter has a mane around the head. Lions, unlike other cats, live in groups called prides. Females go on the hunt in the pride. The usual diet of lions is different ungulates, but they can attack anyone. A lion is a super-predator that is at the very top of the food chain. But at the moment this animal is considered a species under threat of extinction due to poaching.
