In 1991 Amstrong completed in his first race, the Tour DuPont a long and difficult 12-stage race covering 1085 miles over 11 days. He did not win the race, but he did very well. After that, he took part in many races and won quite a few. In October 1996, the doctors diagnosed him with cancer. It was a great shock for him, but he managed to fight the disease and in 1997 he was healthy again. People did not believe him when he said that he would race again. They were all surprised when he won Tour de France in 1999. Lance was again the best ceclist in the world. He became the first person to win the Tour de France 7 times, from 1999 to 2005. There are many reasons why I admire Lance Armstrong. He is a brave hardworking and positive person. He did not give up on his career and dreams because of his disease. As an athlete he is strong and talented. He proved that anything is possible and that dreams can come true.
